NorthbyNorth secondhand books and collectables
NorthbyNorth started its journey via bidorbuy.co.za in 2019, where second hand books and the odd collectable tin, poster or magazine was listed as our focus-products. It is a specialty market, which develops through experience of observation, knowledge of authors, series and age of books. The aim was to ensure that old books, no longer in circulation (mostly), are sourced and made available to buyer who will be the future custodians and subsequently ensure that it remains viable to future generations. Due to an established customer base and changes to the bidorbuy platform, it was decided to offer our extensive range of books directly to customers through our dedicated website.
We would visit sites, schools and other locations that has second hand books for sale, often piled into a large heap in a dusty store room, and pick through to try and find books that can be salvaged and made available to appreciative collectors. This method of sourcing results in unpredictable stock and therefore it would not be considered to take orders of books we do not physically have. Should you be interested in specific books, we can always look for it during our travels and let you know, but we will not engage in any sales agreement without the item in hand first.
Each product listed is an unique item with its own condition statement, images and declaration.
How to use this site
NorthbyNorth
We tried to classify our products using simple terminology. We do not want in-depth, overwhelming classification trees which could potentially discourage the casual browser from looking through our simple listings. The best way to browse is to start at the first page and work your way through the numerous items listed. But should you have an idea of what you are looking for, you can use the Shop menu item and select the appropriate classification.
If you have any specific information, you can use the Search feature by clicking on the magnifying glass icon and typing in the search criteria. The search process will start once you have stopped typing and return all possible matches (even partial matches).
Select the item you want to buy and continue with the checkout. You can also add multiple products to your cart and check all items out when you are ready.
Account creation
It is not required to create an account. You can visit and purchase items as a guest. It is, however, very convenient as creating an account will save your shipping information and save you the effort of retyping everything the next time you want to purchase something. No pressure, you can decide what best suits you.
Account holders will benefit from reduced prices though promotions or voucher and coupons. This will not be available to guests.
Shipping
We have engaged the market for the most competitively priced shipping services. Through experience, we have learned that our customers have preferences and that different service providers provides different customer experiences. We therefore utilise all services offered in our area.
Please note that we do not offer shipment via the South African Postal Service.
